Photos: Sanyo Eneloop & "The red guy"
I got bored today so i went to get some Styrofoam and black manila cards to make my own "studio". this time I was using the Nissin speedlite flash that I just purchased. With proper manipulation of light, I managed to get good result(at least thats what I think). Enjoy :)
PS: No editing was done to the shot besides watermark and resizing. Straight from camera. The White balance was a bit off coz I forgot to calibrate. I was using AWB.
Sanyo Eneloop. The ultimate battery that has low discharge rate.

Review: Nissin Speedlite Di622 Flashgun
Very sorry for the delay and inactivity. I was very busy the past weekend. It should actually be a sony t300 review that is coming up but instead I had to blog about this flashgun/ external flash that I just got because I do not have much time.
As you know, third party flashes has always been reported for bad QC and "not so reliable". Thus, it is always underrated. Despite hearing all those negative comments, I decided to take the risk and try it out for myself. I got Nissin Speedlite Di622 from Empress studio located at the India Street last Friday for a price tag of RM550.
Looks
This flash is big flash I would say. Its flash head is VERY big compared to the others. Its flash head is about the size of the Canon's high end 580x II.
This, has made my tiny and lightweight Nikon D40 somewhat "imbalance" when mounted on the hot shoe.I has belittled my D40 camera body. I ended up holding on to the flash instead of the camera when not in use.
Its built was very sturdy. No loose parts or whatsoever. Workmanship seems to be fine on this section. When turning the flash head's direction, it was a bit stiff. This is most probably because its spanking new. This flash uses the screw-in lock to lock itself tight to the camera. Although I would prefer Nikon's flashes which uses a switch which is more convenient, this is works just fine. It also comes with a wide angle diffuser and a White bounce card. The bounce card is a big plus as it is a very useful tool, even the Nikon SB600 doesnt have it. :D
Features
This flash has about the same power as Nikon's SB600. For beginners like me, I do not see much difference compared to the SB600 in terms of power. This flash supports Nikon's i-ttl or Canon's e-ttl. Basically it stands for through the lens that calculates the amount of light needed so that the flash would be fired accordingly.
It was accurate and did a good job. Bare in mind that using a flashgun isnt something that you will learn in a day or two. To get the best lighting, you will have to learn which direction to bounce.
Recycle time for a full flash was approximately 4 secs, which has lived up to what was claimed on the specs sheet. Battery life was decent too. I managed to shoot up to 200+ shots in a dinner event last Saturday before my 4 Sanyo 2100amh rechargeable batteries went dead.
Another big plus about this flash is the wireless slave mode. You can trigger the flash wirelessly by using a remote trigger or your built in flash. In my case, I used my D40's built in flash. To my surprise, there was NO misfires at all after using it for one week. A very impressive achievement I would say. This flash, works a little bit differently from the Nikon's SB800. I was only able to use the SB800 slave mode when my camera's built-in flash was on manual mode while this Nissin flash only works when my built-in camera flash is set on ttl mode. Triggering the flash wirelessly is somewhat very useful when you wanna shoot indoor shots or if you have the time to experiment on different types of lighting direction. It is especially useful when shooting product shots where you would like to eliminate the harsh shadows as much as possible.
In the above photo, my flash was places behind the spray can and the light was bounced using a white cupboard.
The flash can be triggered even from far away. In this picture, that was the furthest I could go in my house. If i had the space,I believe it could go further.
The AF assist nothing to shout about. Sorry I made a wrong statement earlier today. It worked fine. I said it had a problem because i was too near the subject. I took out the camera and try it again and it worked just as fine under low light condition. Although it is not as bright as the Nikon's speedlight, it still works the same.
Verdict
All in all, i would say this flash is a steal for the features it can give. Its really a very good flash. If you are looking for a reliable, and good quality budget flash, this is the way to go. Here are some shots I took using this flash during my dinner last Saturday.

EDIT: the AF assist section...read up..
