IT Magazines Review
Yes, i buy a lot of magazines. almost up to RM100+ per month sometimes. However, i could not afford to be paying that amount of money every month so i cut down to only a few mags per month for now.Let me give you an overview of all the mags i have came across and let you do the thinking on which best suits your need.
CHIP- A magazine for amateur IT enthusiasts. This mag has an average of about 120 pages per issue. CHIP stopped for roughly two months recently and i thought they werent going to publish anymore. To my surprise they came back with a new look with new contents!!! The new contents are juicy and intriguing. The cover story of every issue is nice and informative. As usual, a review section is a must for all IT mags.Besides, theres also a section whereby readers get to learn those how-tos. Tips and tricks are also included at the end of the book. for RM9.9 its worth every penny spent.
Max-IT- You get a lot of news from this book. Keeps you updated with whats going on out there. What i dont like about this book is that they only have one or two articles in the "Feature IT". If you are the type who likes to read reviews on graphic cards and mobos, this magazine is for you. They review at least 5 mobos/gfx cards every issue. To cut short, there around 30+ pages of in-depth review in every issue. The "Fix-IT" section is good for people having problems with their computers. You could email them your problem they will guide you to solve the problem!!!
Sounds & Pictures- No, its not a photography magazine nor is it a audiophile magazine. This magazine basically gives you all the information of all the "whats coming next" gadgets. This Magazine is one of a kind. It reviews all those branded Audiophiles sound systems. Cameras, Phones and notebooks have their section too. What i dislike about their reviews is that its not detailed enough, which makes it look like they are reading from the specs. In every issue, there is an article teaching you how to produce nice photographs. This give it a big plus as i have yet to see any magazine out there which compromises every aspect of the IT field.
T3- This magazine is filled with only previews and sneak-peaks of the cool gadgets in town. Most of them wont arrive in Malaysia for sure but no harm looking at those cool gadgets wishing for it day after day. From notebooks to game consoles to audiophiles. Theres only a small caption beside every pic telling you the specs of the item. Nevertheless, this book still has a in-depth review section. Like any other ones out there. They compare a range of products to see which one's the winner. Lazy to read but wanna have a glimpse at those cool gadgets? Get T3!!!
HWM- Below the titles theres this line:"adware mag". Even before opening the magazine you will know what to expect inside. This doesnt mean that its ALL Ads...Instead, they add in more pages(200 pages for the february 07 issue). Dont know which one to buy? Read their reviews. I am astounded by the number of items reviewed. To cut short, All the latest gadgets are being reviewed to the core. Even 42" TVs!!! Price? only RM14!!!
Digital Camera Magazine(DCM)- Photogrph enthusiast would love this magazine. At a price of RM9, This mag is has all the things a photographer needs to know. From Photoshop editing to professional photographers own experience articles. Whats best about it is that theres a few sections such as, "Hot Shots" and 2 more(cant remember the name). Readers stand a chance to win prizes by sending in their photos according to the theme. Camera reviews are not left out too!Wanna learn more? every issue comes with a CD filled with Photoshop Tutorials and other freebies. There is two versions of DCM. One is the Expensive-pound-converted UK version and another is the one i just reviewed on, Malaysian Version.
I hope this guide can help those of you out there who are scouting for good magazines.

Movie: Ratatouille
Movie Length: approx 2 hours
Have you ever thought if humans were the only people that can cook? Think again. A bunch of rats can run a kitchen!!! Remy the rat, is inspired by Auguste Gusteau, the world renown Frech Chef. Remy, however, is a rat. That didnt pose a problem for long. He found a way to cook food by controlling Linguini's(one of the new workers) body. How? By pulling his hair of course! Remy's great dishes has made Anton Ego, who was the guy who made Auguste Gusteau died of sadness because of his critics, is now back to try out Linguini's food. Watch the movie to know the ending!!
Another cartoon movie thats humourous yet interesting. However i find the movie to be a little too slow in some part.

Movie: Rush Hour 3
Movie Length: approx1 hours 20 minutes
A continuation of the previous rush hour 1 and 2. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan are back, Fighting crimes. They are after this group of world secret trait organizations leaders, Shai Xiang(spelling?). These group of leaders consists of 13 people which control the whole secret organization. Jackie and Chris hunts them down as they killed the China ambassador before he was about to disclose their soceities identity. The 13 names was written on a women's head. Jackie and Chris went to Paris to look for this girl. Kenji, was a part of this trait organization. However, Jackie and Kenji somehow had a close relationship in the past. Thus, Jackie did not want to kill him. Ending? I aint gonna ruin the fun. Watch the movie.
Just like its(Rush Hour 1 and 2) predessecors this movie is in a humourious yet action-packed movie. Jackie and Chris are really crowd pullers. However, i am somewhat disappointed with the fighting scenes. It was only a mere few minutes in this whole movie. Maybe the director decided to focus more on humour than action.

Internet Service Provider
while Japan is already hitting the 100 megabit speed for internet connection, our country is stil WAY behind them. Even our neighbouring country singpore is already having 25mbits for home users.
We, in the other hand, can only get 4 gruelling mbits for a really "low" price. Besides, in malaysia there is only one ISP which is dominating the market, Streamyx. Yes, there is many others mushrooming but they are still far too small to compete with Streamyx. The service is another matter. Streamyx promote heavily encouraging people to sunscribe their service yet they dont know how to treat their customers well enough.
Slow connection speed, P2P throttle, Constant line drop...just to name a few... The Reason why I haven been posting these few days is also due to the internet connection. I cant even connect to the internet. They say its because of the high server load. Reason reasons... too many indeed... Many users are already fed up with their customer service. They dont take the initiative to help you and just give reasons to avoid the commotion. What can we do. Stop? no coz they are the only one providing internet broadband(in my place). We all hope that there will soon be other ISP that are big enough to compete with them. Look at Telcos...they are struggling so hard to attract customers due to the competition out there. Hope my analogy explains it all. Thanks

Peruvians mourn earthquake dead
Peru will hold three days of mourning for the victims of a devastating earthquake that has left hundreds dead.
Rescuers are still pulling bodies from ruined buildings in the rural town of Pisco and nearby villages, 200km (120 miles) south-west of the capital, Lima.
Hospitals and morgues were overwhelmed by the disaster, forcing residents to place dead bodies on the streets.
At least 450 people died and many more were injured, but officials say they expect the death toll to rise.
President Alan Garcia declared that all public buildings would be closed for three days - including schools, military bases and museums.
Mr Garcia had earlier announced a state of emergency and sent cabinet ministers to the area.
The UN's Margareta Wahlstrom said power and communications were down and that 80% of houses in some areas had been destroyed because of poor construction.
Ms Wahlstrom, UN deputy emergency relief co-ordinator, said that the death toll was likely to rise.
I never experienced such a long and strong earthquake in Peru. It felt like it would never end
Marcia, Lima
She said almost $1m (£500,000) had already been pledged by several UN agencies to help the victims.
The 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck on Wednesday evening at 1841 (2341 GMT), just off the coast of Peru.
The province of Ica was the most damaged, but even in Lima, 150km (95 miles) from the epicentre, people stood trembling on the streets as buildings around them shook.
Juan Mendoza, mayor of Pisco, told a radio station that "the dead are scattered by the dozens on the streets".
He estimated that 70% of his coastal city was in ruins.
"We don't have lights, water, communications. Most houses have fallen, churches, stores, hotels, everything is destroyed," he said.
In the city of Ica, people sifted through the rubble of the Senor de Luren church, which collapsed during mass.
In Imperial, a town south of Lima, "about 80% of the adobe houses have fallen," Mayor Richard Yactayo told Reuters news agency.
Amid the bitter cold of winter, Imperial's survivors lit fires in their ruined homes to keep themselves warm.
Offers of assistance, whether in the form of rescue experts or relief supplies, came from Spain, France, Ecuador and Bolivia.
President Garcia thanked God that the earthquake had not caused "a catastrophe with an immense number of victims".
In 1970, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake high in the Peruvian Andes triggered a landslide that buried the town of Yungay and killed 66,000 people.

my sympathy goes out to those hundreds of vistims out there. May we all mourn for their death. Nobody can stop the force of nature.

Negarakuku Rappers' Apology Rejected by Cabinet
The Cabinet has not accepted student Wee Meng Chee’s apology for the furore caused by his Negaraku rap videoclip on video-sharing web portal YouTube.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the Cabinet had decided yesterday that they were not in the position to forgive him and that “the law would have to take its course”.
“The offence was not against the Prime Minister or ministers concerned but against the nation,” Nazri told reporters after the launch of the International Conference on Media and Information Warfare: A Global Challenge of the 21st Century here.
“If he had committed an offence, which I think was an offence, then we must allow the Attorney General to investigate and decide whether to take him to court,” he said.
Wee had on Tuesday apologised for the parody and agreed to remove the videoclip from his blog.
Nazri said Wee’s apology could be used as mitigation
Source
why are they making such a big fussa bout this issue...its only A SONG written by an idealistic rapper. MCA already made a public apology.. What do they want more? Wee Meng Chee's father made an apology through the media.. isnt that enough? Come on.. you can fine him for misusing the National Anthem but whats with the big hoo-haa about the lyrics... its been in the headlines for so many days.. Now its all back to square one.. They could have just used all those effort in catching this guy to catch those criminals..the crime rate is already deteriorating... DO SOMETHING!!!

Chinese bridge collapse kills 22
At least 22 people have been killed and up to 46 others are still missing after a bridge collapsed while under construction in central China.
The bridge, at a popular Chinese tourist spot in Fenghuang county in Hunan province, had been scheduled to open later this month, reports say.
A total of 123 workers had been on the bridge removing scaffolding at the time, according to Xinhua news agency.
China has identified more than 6,000 bridges that are damaged or dangerous.
The government in Beijing has pledged to fix or rebuild all the damaged bridges in an ambitious plan to make the country's road network safer by 2010, the China Daily newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Investigation under way
Dramatic pictures from the scene showed bulldozers and rescue workers, including about 400 soldiers, searching through a huge pile of rubble.
"I saw a lot of bodies lying on the road, some of them were construction workers and some were passers-by... blood was everywhere," one witness told Reuters news agency.
Bulldozers and rescuers are searching the scene for survivors
"A car was crushed flat under the bridge, it was so ruined that I could not even tell the size of the car," he added.
The 320m (1,049ft) bridge was being built to span the Jiantuo River, connecting the hilly Fenghuang County with neighbouring Guizhou Airport.
Xinhua said the 123 workers had been busy "dismantling steel scaffolding erected during the construction process" when the collapse occurred.
According to local media sources, most of those working on the 12m yuan (US$1.58m) bridge were local farmers who had been recruited for the project.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. The bridge's construction manager and project supervisor have been detained for questioning, Xinhua reported.
The accident comes amid growing concern about the state of China's infrastructure in the country's rush for development.
In its annual report last year, the ministry of communications identified 6,300 bridges across the country that were dangerous because of serious damage to "important structural components", the China Daily reported.
Xiao Rucheng, of the Institute of Bridge and Structural Engineering, was quoted by the paper as saying that many of the newer bridges had been built in haste, and older ones were unable to cope with today's traffic flows.
"China should learn a lesson from the collapse of the Mississippi bridge, and accelerate the inspection of unsafe bridges," he said, referring to the 1 August collapse of a bridge in the US that killed at least nine people.

Nineteen dead in Malaysia crash
Nineteen people have been killed and seven seriously wounded after a bus travelling on Malaysia's main motorway overturned, state media has reported.
The crash occurred just before dawn after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle in the northern Perak state, Bernama news agency said.
It was on the North-South Expressway, which runs from the Thai border to the Malaysian peninsula's southern tip.
It is reported to be one of the country's worst ever traffic accidents.
The bus, on its way from Johor Bahru to the northern town of Alor Star, was travelling downhill when it hit the curb and sped off the road before turning over, state media said.
Many passengers were flung through the exposed roof and others died when the sides of the bus were crushed on impact, police said.
The country has a modern network of fast highways, but speeding is common and many road users do not follow safety procedures.

Movie: School for Scoundrels
Movie Length:1 hour 47 minutes
A story of a guy who is low in confidence trying to win a girls attention. Unfortunately, he was too "nerd" to be noticed. Too honest, too "unique" in a sense. He is what people would call a loser. Dare not stand up for himself and achieve his goals. Thus, he enrolled for a course/class to boost his confidence. It was a class whereby all the "losers" are thought how to gain confidence. Paintball game, initiate confrontation etc were their activities. However, the teacher, was the bad guy. trying to win this guy's "dream girl" over. this is when the competition starts. They used all sorts of ways to go against each other. Wanna know who won? watch is yourself:)
If you think you are a loser, think again. maybe you could learn a thing or two from this show. interesting and unpredictable movie. Use those tactics in the movie to tackle your dream girl(most probably you will fail)

Movie: The Persuit of Happiness
Movie length-01 hour 57 minutes
Chris Gardner(will Smith) is a salesman struggling to sell what he once thought was a great deal bone scanner. He bought as many as his could afford and putting his money at stake. Despite being so confident, he failed to sell them. Doctors in town said that that machine was just a luxurious item which is not worth the money. Why so? because this machine gives a fraction clearer image than a normal bone scanner and costs twice more. He had a wife and a kid. His wife was so depressed when he came back everyday without selling out the machine. Knowing that they would go bankrupt soon, she left to New York for a new job. Chris didnt give up. He went to apply for a 6 month course in order to qualify to become a national intern. Things were going smoothly....until one day, the government took out his money from his bank account to compensate for the tax he had owed for ages. All he was left was 21$. They had no apartment to stay in, No money, no nothing. His son and him went to stay in the public dorm(for poor people). After all the hard work, things started to pay off. Out of the 20 applicants he was the chosen one. At this time, this is what he call "happiness"
This is the type of movie that wants to deliver the message rather than giving the viewers good graphics. Its a movie thats very meaningful. It showed perseverance, determination and love.

True Friends
Often enough you hear people complaining about how they don have true friends as so on and so forth. Have you ever wondered if there is really a specific way to get find a true friend. NO. Its all comes from sincerity. How much you give is how much you take. I myself is not quite a successful person executing my thoughts. However, these are what i learnt from the pass 15 years. Between friends, we need trust, loyalty, sincerity. These 3 words are related to each other in a way.
We as a friend, must not be too suspicious about our friend. Nor can we trust the person if you just got to know him. Trust dont come overnight. You earn them. Make sacrifices to gain trust.Help them when they are in need. Get help when things get out of hands. You will know which is true, which is not. I have a friend of mine who recently lost his phone to his own friend. This shows that that guy has gave up his friendship for that phone. he can do no nothing about it. No proof, no evidence.
Never betray your friends. This would be the last thing you wanna do to end a friendship. Betrayal is something that is unforgivable by any means . Once a person is being betrayed, all the trust and faith he has in you will just vanish in a blink of an eye. These people are fools who dodo something to please others while not understanding the circumstances.
Sometimes in a friend you have trust and faith. Sincerity is no less than either one of them. Sincerity comes from deep down your heart. If you are sincere in making friends, people would know. Expressions dont lie. You may think you have acted well in front of him but he will realize eventually.
As the saying goes :" if there's a will, there's a way." True friends arent had to find, neither are they easy. Its all in your mind. Think about it.
